Here in the UK preparations will soon be underway for Mother’s Day which for 2019 will fall on Sunday 31st March.  So many Mum’s that I come into contact with are Crafty or enjoy crafting as a way to unwind when they get some time to themselves.

I have put together a gift guide list of items that I personally would love to receive for Mother’s Day and hopefully it will give you some inspiration.  Although I would advise that any handmade gifts that you were to put the effort into creating would be greatly received.

There is also my previous blog post on what craft essentials to have to get started with crafting. Click here to read that post first.

Diamond Art Paintings

These became quite popular towards the end of 2018 and are a great craft to undertake without the need for a lot of time or equipment.  Most sets come with the tools and are very simple to follow.  There are a wide range of sizes, colours and designs available.  These have particularly proven popular with cross stitchers who can’t see or hold the needle like they used to enjoy.

Adult colouring books

Adult colouring books were very popular about two years ago however they are still used by a number of crafters to relax.  They can be designed to feature many different themes including flowers, seasons or mystery items.  A nice set of colouring pencils to accompany the colouring book make for a well rounded gift. Bamboo knitting needles

If you have a knitter then bamboo knitting needles are a very thoughtful gift.  The bamboo needles are lovely to work with and have a nicer feel to them.  Bamboo needles can be purchased in a variety of lengths and are usually sold in sets.  Try to find the length that the knitter is most comfortable working with and purchase the corresponding set.  Personally I prefer a shorter needle so I have a set of about 15cm in length.

Craft: techniques & projects by DK Crafts

This book has a vast array of crafts inside.  It gives ideas for projects and gives tips on techniques to complete them.  This book will be of interest to a crafter and would provide some inspiration for possible new crafts.  Crafters will get inspiration from a variety of sources and this book will be very inspirational following a flick through the pages. Scrap book sets

Scrapbooking is a great way to combine crafts and memories.  Crafters can unleash their creative side while collating all their photos and memorabilia into a single book.  If you purchase a set they can get started with their scrapbook and add to their supplies as their inspiration flows.  Scrapbooking is where a number of paper crafters begin and so it is a good place to start if a person is unsure where to start. Candle making set

With a new craft it can sometimes be expensive to try a new craft when you are unsure what equipment to purchase.  A starter set is a great place to start as the basic tools and materials are already supplied.  Candles are a popular gift, so a set that enables personalisation would be a step better! Novelty pin cushion

Any sewer will be constantly using their pins while slaving away.  A well placed on cushion can make a very well used gift.  There are a wide array of pin cushions available.  However have a think about the receivers other interests.  The cushions can be designed to feature vintage cups, certain animals or have a fun novelty value.  If you tap in to connected interests you could give the perfect personal gift. Light up crochet hooks

A nice set of crochet hooks are a perfect gift for a crochet crafter. A few years ago I stumbled across light up crochet hooks. So these are great for crochet in the evenings as you can craft in subdued light while the hook lights the section of the pattern you are working on. The majority of the ones that I have seen have a slightly larger handle than traditional hooks making them comfortable to hold. Click here to see an example of light up crochet hooks.

You can take a sneaky peak at what crafts your Mother spends time doing and see if there are any items of equipment that could make a helpful addition to their craft stash.  Although if there is a new craft that you think they may enjoy a starter kit is a good way for them to have a go.  For some of the more advanced crafts a workshop or lessons may also make a great gift.
At the end of the day anything that is received is greatly appreciated by Mother’s.  Even having a day off from chores is a welcome gift for the day.

Let me know if there are any gifts that you have given or received that you think should be added to the list.  Also let me know if any of the items above have been added to your craft stash that you would recommend to others.
